Tile and Waterproofing
Tile and Waterproofing in Lakewood
Tile is what you see, but waterproofing is what keeps a bathroom sound, and most shower failures start behind the tile rather than on it. Osmhi sets porcelain, ceramic, and natural stone over cement backer board with a bonded waterproof membrane, modified thinset, and grout, all installed to the TCNA Handbook and the ANSI A108 series. From a full shower surround to a new floor, the layers behind the finish are built to shed water, not trap it.
Why Waterproofing Matters First
- Leaks start in the wall. A bonded membrane to ANSI A118.10 over backer board stops water before it reaches the framing, which is where rot and mold begin.
- The right pan slope. A properly presloped shower pan draws water to the drain instead of letting it pool under the tile.
- Materials that fit the room. Porcelain is dense and low maintenance, natural stone brings character but wants sealing, and we help you weigh both.
Our Process
We hang and tape cement backer board, apply a liquid or sheet membrane such as Schluter-Kerdi, and flood-test the pan before a single tile is set. Then we lay out the tile for clean lines, back-butter as needed for full coverage, and grout with a matched cementitious or epoxy grout. Every change of plane gets a color-matched silicone joint instead of grout, so the corners flex without cracking.
